HFRC Serviceable Buried Drain

Experience

Anyone working in a freeze prone environment should know three things:

  • Properly operating drains are critical to preventing equipment/piping freeze ups and the inevitable freeze damage that follows.
  • Buried drain valves are a maintenance nightmare and rarely function properly after 2-3 years of service, if that.
  • Valve repair or replacement usually requires excavation which can be expensive and often difficult to manage due to safety and environmental concerns

In order to address this issue HFRC introduced the first serviceable buried drain valve in 2016. This drain valve revolutionized buried drains as it could be serviced and repaired without excavation in most cases. HFRC accomplished this by partnering with one of the largest valve and hydrant manufacturers in the world, to bring the industry a serviceable buried drain that would be high-quality, reliable, and a long-lasting drain valve.

As a result, facilities no longer have to:

  • Undertake costly excavations to repair stuck, broken, or clogged equipment/piping drains
  • Live with non-functional drain valves and the hassles and damage caused by freeze ups, undermining, and flooding

Applications include fixed fire water monitors, water supply manifolds, deluge systems, and any other water piping/equipment that must be drained for freeze protection.

Advantages

Advantages and features of the HFRC serviceable equipment drain valve include:

  • Easily installed for new construction and as a retrofit for existing buried drain valves.
    • Installation requires no field fabricated parts and minimal in-trench work. As such, the installation cost is comparable to that of a low-priced buried ball or gate valve that may not even last a year before it becomes non-functional.
  • Standard burial depths from 3-6 ft.
  • A vent-indicator to:
    • Prevent personnel from leaving the drain open while the equipment or piping is charged. Thus, preventing from undermining and flooding.
    • Provide positive indication of a leaking or failed isolation valve on the equipment or piping. Therefore, avoiding the potential for freeze ups and undermining.
  • High-quality materials, parts, and finishes to assure a long service life.
  • Custom stainless-steel identification tags to assure a long service life.
  • A grade level break-away fitting to minimize the potential for valve damage in the event of traffic accidents, etc…
